Elton performed for the Big Easy
Wednesday, September 21 2005

Fan report by Marian Joy Friedman.

It should have been the Big Easy comes to the Big apple.
It was a special concert for a special purpose, but this show was like no other I've seen as the majority of the music consisted of performers from the Big Easy who lost most if not all of their possessions.

With the exception of Elton John, Dave Mathews, John Fogerty and Jimmy Buffet, the entertainers did the Blues and Cindi Lauper was excellent.

In addition to the many performers, Paul Newman and former president William J. Clinton took the stage.

The entrance to Madison Square Garden was all decorated in mardi gras colors with beads, balloons and tinsel. There were actual street performers from New Orleans and all the workers wore special hats and purple shirts. They even served food from the Big Easy. It was very cool.

The show started promptly at 7 pm as it was being filmed for a pay per view. All the monies from the PPV are going to the fund.

I think the most credit has to go to the people working the stage. It was a rotating stage and from where I sat (they were not rocket seats let me tell you!) I could see them working behind the wall and there was a lot of complicated manuevering going on. They did a great job.

The actress Scarlett Johannsen introduced Sir Elton John as a principle player in making the concert happen and when he was introduced, the crowd went wild. Completely wild. He looked great and he sounded even better. I can't wait for this weekend's shows at Madison Square Garden!

Elton performed the following songs:

  • Funeral for a Friend
  • Love Lies Bleeding
  • Someone Saved my Life Tonight
  • Levon
